Welcome

Welcome to our website! Let's start by introducing ourselves... We are Dave & Charlotte. We're photographers. Our passion is photographing the relationships between people just like you. We call this lifestyle photography. Often people arrive on our blog looking for wedding photography in Toronto or surrounding area, but we also take on destination weddings around the world. Over the past couple of years we have photographed weddings in places as remote as Australia, India, Mexico, England, Barbados, Jamaica, Puerto Rico to events closer to home, like Montreal, New York and The Muskokas.

If you're newly engaged and in search of two fun loving, easy going wedding photographers, we're sure you'll love viewing our engagement & wedding photography portfolios. If you like what you see and want to find out more, please drop us a line and we'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

We hope to meet you soon!

A Destination Wedding and Little Lauren!

Some of you may remember the baby shoot we did with little baby Lauren a few months back. I was stoked because I actually won a photography award for one of the images from that shoot. She was only 8 weeks old then and she was so cute and adorable at that age! Dave and I were so honoured to photograph such an important time in Laurens life, it honestly feels like yesterday. It is so incredible how quickly kids grow up and time flies by so fast. I wonder if she actually got a chance to wear all of those cute baby clothes overflowing in her closet LOL! I have a feeling with all of her designer duds she’s going to grow up to be one well dressed fashionista!

best photo of the whole photo shoot

When Lauren’s mom Melissa was looking for wedding photographers to document their incredible destination wedding in St. Thomas we were stoked she called us first! We absolutely LOVE shooting destination weddings and it’s even better when you have such gorgeous subjects as Lauren and her mom and dad! St. Thomas is a gorgeous island on the Caribbean Sea and is a part of the Virgin Islands. It’s rich with beautiful architecture, history and not to mention gorgeous turquoise water with soft white sand beaches. We have soo many shoot ideas and we can’t wait to photograph such an amazing time in their lives!

lauren and her mum wandering through high park together

While we were chatting about Melissa & Sean’s exciting wedding plans, we popped on a slide show of some of our destination wedding work. Lauren was so cute, she started clapping her hands and dancing to the beat of the music 🙂 I don’t even think any of us saw the slide show, we were too busy bopping along with Lauren, she’s soo much fun to have around!

one of my favourite photos from the shoot

After the meeting Dave and I wanted to take little Lauren out for a quick 10 minute photo shoot in High Park. She looked cute as a button in her beanie and stockings, we had to get a few shots.

the cutest little chubby legs

Melissa taught Lauren how to make some funny faces so we had to take a few priceless pictures!

sticking her tongue out at mum!

"huh?" What's the mum?

It was so cute, Lauren does not like standing on any uneven ground so we put her by a tree for balance. We wanted to evoke a really true laugh and reaction out of her to show of her new toothy smile. Melissa told us she loooooves hearing the song “Low” by FloRida and it always makes her laugh LOL! Soo we all broke into our personal renditions of… Apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur… the whole club was lookin’ at her… shorty got low, low, low… Haha, she LOVED it and clapped and boogied while we sang! I don’t know if there is such a thing as an Australian Rapper but I think Dave might have to consider a career change, hmmm nah… I think we’ll keep our day jobs!!! Lauren has such a happy disposition, she has got to be the best kid ever to photograph!

can't you just hear her giggling?

We had so much fun with these guys! We can’t wait to shoot Melissa & Sean’s wedding in gorgeous St. Thomas, I’m sure we’ll sneak in a baby shoot or two while we’re away !!

Seriously one of the cutest kids in the world

Here is the slide show we put together for Laurens mom & dad of the shots we took. We thought the song was perfect because when you tell little Lauren to smile, she crinkles her nose… too funny!

Adam & Melissa’s Wedding at The Manor, Kettleby

One of the best things about being a wedding photographer is the opportunity to witness and capture such significant events in people’s lives on a weekly basis. Somehow, Charlotte and I seem to keep attracting the most amazing clients – and we feel so incredibly thankful for that. Melissa and Adam are no exception to the rule 🙂 They were part of Mike & Nulifer’s wedding last year – and it’s a funny thing, when you step into another wedding with people you’ve become friends with, their level of trust in you makes the photography of the day go even better.

reflection-of-groom-getting-dressed

Adam is such a funny, thoughtful and caring guy – the way he and Melissa relate – the way their families expressed their love to them throughout the day – the way they look at one another, it’s easy to see them sitting in reclining chairs 50 years from now, still sharing jokes back and forth.

When we arrived at Adam’s place, it was cool to see that the guys had been playing some poker to get the day started right! Before leaving to go to Melissa’s house, we grabbed this cool shot of the guys… Looking very mafiaso right?!

groomsmen-playing-cards

At Melissa’s house, the atmosphere was electric. Not only were her bridesmaids and parents there, but all her aunties, uncles and grandparents too… Very cool to see them all having a good time together.

All of Melissa’s bridesmaids were keeping her laughing most of the day too! Check out this great shot of Mel cracking up as the girls tie up her dress.

And as Mel’s mum popped her head through the door for the first look of her being dressed I captured this great expression! You can see where Mel gets her sense of humour eh?

Robert of the Flower Workshop in Bolton, did an awesome job. They all lasted the whole day and looked incredible.

Don’t you love this bird cage veil with fresh flowers Melissa wore… So elegent.

The drama in the moment when dad sees his little girl all dressed up is always fantastic. There’s so much love in those eyes.

… and nothing beats a mother’s eyes seeing her baby all dressed up to get married.

The ceremony was held at The Manor is Kettleby. Although the weather was cold, the rain held off, which was great as Mel and Adam for really hoping for their outdoor ceremony…. I just love an open air wedding, and this light was just gorgeous.

Here’s all the parent’s response to the first kiss! You gotta love that.

Although we’ve photographed many weddings at The Manor, we haven’t often made use of the front foyer for photography, so we were stoked to have it all to ourselves for the family portraits and wedding party session. What a sexy wedding party right?!

Smokin’ ladies! The girls were having so much fun together and kept each other laughing the whole day… very cool.

Toward the end of twilight, we headed outside for a brief shoot by the lake… I love the contrasting colour.

And to finish the night off, here is a beautiful moment where Adam and Melissa cut their cake and ended up with two rather lage slices!

Well congratulations again guys – it was a real treat to photograph your wedding… Safe travels abroad – it’ll be great to catch up when you return.

A Year in Pictures

Dave and I have one rather obvious obsession and serious passion- Photography. Every day we wake up and see the world as if we’re looking through the lens of a camera. We almost always have our cameras on hand and love shooting little inspirational pieces of the world and documenting our lives. Photography has become embedded so deep within our hearts, we love any excuse to get out there and start snapping. We love being creative and living and feeling in the moment. Capturing our subjects as they truly are and most of the time, madly in LOVE!

We’re so lucky to be surrounded by so many passionate and talented photographers. The saying must be true “like attracts like” because we know that all of our photographer friends and mentors are as in love with shooting as we are! Over the last year we’ve had the incredible opportunity to be photographed by many amazing people. We thrive in all types of photography and even love getting in front of the lens from time to time. If there is one thing I’d recommend to any photographer from a hobbyist to a seasoned pro, get in front of the camera and see how you feel. You can learn so much from being on the other side, it will really give you an insight into how your subjects are feeling when you photograph them, what works and what really made you respond to the camera.

We started off our year in pictures being photographed by somebody whose images we’ve both admired for a long time, legend and multi-international award winner Jerry Ghionis! We attended his workshop in Washington D.C. and can honestly say to any photographer it was an amazing learning experience and real eye opener!

Dave and I were lucky enough to be models in the workshop and really got a chance to get a feel for what it’s like on the other side. We love Jerry’s style and were thrilled with the shots. He’s amazing with posing and lighting. What an awesome experience to be photographed by the most awarded photographer in the world!

Meet Micheal Moore! No, he’s not the documentary filmmaker and star of “Roger and Me”:) He’s a cool and down to earth photographer and friend of ours with some amazing talent. We hooked up for a shoot down at the Toronto Brickworks and had some wicked fun exploring the dusty old brick factory. Remind me next time not to wear high heels while exploring abandoned brick factories LOL. That was the first and last time I wore those shoes 🙁

James Van Hees or Jaymz as some know him, is a great friend of ours and has one of the most amazing studios we’ve ever seen. Located in Flamborough, he’s built his studio out of an old church dating back to the 1800’s. Mesmerizing cathedral ceilings and an actual cat walk/fashion runway greet you as you walk through the old church doors. James was a great help when we needed a new promo shot for our site. James also runs workshops with us several times a year.

Wei Quek is a new and up-coming photographer from Calgary. His style is modern, edgy and very cool. We were stoked when he asked us at WPPI in Las Vegas if we were up for a shoot, not only because he and his wife Diane a great photographers but because we had just gotten engaged!!!

Some of you may remember Bryan Caporicci and his fiance Al from our blog. We just finished part 1 of 4 of their 4 season shoot and had a real blast going to Blue Mountain in Collingwood for the weekend with the two of them. We rented a ski chalet and hung out in the village to get some great shots of the newly engaged couple. Bryan, being a wedding photographer himself was nice enough to grab shots of Dave and I through out the shoot, here are a few of our faves!

Thanks so much to all of the great photographers that have not only been friends to us but have helped us document the past year of our lives together. Looking back at the photos, we realize how important it is to take the time for good photography. This year flew by sooo fast but we’ll always have our photos to remind us of our great times together. Remember you never NEED a good reason to have great photography of you and your loved ones. Make the time together and invest in an artist!!

Happy Birthday Greta!!!

greta2

Some of you know our funny little micro-mini dachshund Greta from reading our blog. She’s a 4 lb. little pup with a big voice and even bigger heart!  Others may have met her in our studio or during our road trip last year. She sure loooves attention and from whoever is willing to give it to her 🙂

We have some exciting news!!! Greta just turned 1! Yeah, Yippie!!! Happy Birthday to our cute little baby!

We did a little shoot with her this week to celebrate, and we all had a lot of fun, as soon as we put the camera in front of her she thought it was a game and was hopping back and forth and rolling on her back.  It was difficult trying to get her to sit still for just a moment and Greta trying to resist doing so! We bought Greta a brand new bumble bee outfit for the big day from Metro Hound, however it was a bit too snug for the little monkey!

We look forward to spending many more happy birthdays with her in years to come.

Wicked Wedding Workshop Wrap-Up

wedding-photography-workshop-group-toronto

Woo Hoo! Dave and I are so happy to announce that our wedding photography workshop at the Berkeley Church was a huge success!! We were so excited to have Johnny Tran fly in all the way from Calgary as our featured guest photographer. The class absolutely LOVED having him along and so did we! Johnny was honoured with DWF’s Wedding Photographer of the Year award and with his personality and ability he definitely deserves it. We had such an amazing class of photographers attending our workshop as well. Going through some of the participants images from the day, we were awe struck by the shots these guys were getting and all of the interesting angles and poses they were coming up with. It’s been a lot of fun for Dave and I to go through the images from the day, we’ll be posting the winners from our photography challenge soon, so stay tuned!

Our gorgeous models were a breeze to work with and looked fabulous in every shot. We had Eric and Angela along, we shot their wedding last year at the Manor in Kettleby.  Angela is a blogger and bakes healthy goodies. Her site “Oh She Glows” is very popular and attracts thousands of visitors every day!! She made Dave and I some healthy brownies and apple cake, it was sooo moist and delicious. It seemed utterly impossible that they were made with no oil or butter! MMM… healthy brownies…  They both did an awesome job and all of the participants mentioned how nice it was to work with a real married couple. We loved shooting them again, it took us back to that beautiful wedding day last summer when they vowed their love for one another. Ahhhhh… it seems like yesterday 🙂

We had such an overwhelming response last workshop with Vlada on board. She is a professional world class model and is always quick with a funny joke or a new pose! Dave and I had a real blast shooting her, she kept us laughing all day. She hales from Russia but you should hear her do her “Aussie Dave” impersonation… “Crikey!!” It’s spot on!

Alana was along for the day as well. She’s done a bit of runway but is new to modeling. It was nice having such beautiful subjects with different levels of experience along for the shoot.  It really made us exercise our abilities as photographers to get the reactions we wanted from all of our models.

The Berkeley Church was nothing short of a magical and ethereal location for photography. Endless corridors, hidden stairways and private rooms decorated with modern art and eclectic antiques. It’s no wonder so many movies are filmed there not to mention all of the rock stars that have graced the stage! We were so happy to use the Church for our workshop, it was a photographers dream!  Dave and I will be back to the Berkeley Church March 24th to photograph an event and cannot wait. We’re sure it’s even more beautiful lit up at night!

Here are a few of Dave’s favourite shots of the day. He amazes me every time, I love seeing the stuff he comes back with after a day of shooting 🙂 He did a wicked job teaching while he was shooting! Evoking true and honest reactions as well as endless laughter from our models! Johnny was also an amazing teacher, he was so informative and has such a cool and down to earth vibe about him. We’ll have his shots soon and post them on the blog when we do. Stay tuned for Johnny’s workshop dates and details as well.

These are a few of my own personal shots. I loved shooting the location and the gorgeous models.  They were so much fun to photograph and stayed so congenial and chipper through a long day of shooting. I also loved the effect of video light and used it for a few shots with the class. In the shot I took here of Alana against this red wicker wall, it really made for a moody dramatic effect. Like I said the Berkeley Church is just loaded with cool, funky locations to shoot. My sister Tricia was along to help us out with styling the models and lighting. She was such a super-amazing help all day so we’re hoping she’ll join us for the next workshop… pretty pleeeaassee.  I think her arm was getting a bit tired from holding the video light at a 45 degree angle so hopefully she’ll be up for another one lol! Thanks Tricia, you’re a trooper 🙂

We’d also love to thank Pink Twig for supplying us with such gorgeous floral bouquets for our workshop. Pink Twig is an amazing little floral boutique in Toronto just a hop, skip and a jump from our studio. Their floral boutique creates some of the most beautiful and unique arrangements we’ve ever seen. We have had many of our couples use Pink Twig on their wedding day and they always provide the freshest, most vibrant flowers so we love photographing their stuff. We’re stoked to have Pink Twig along to provide our floral bouquets.

A big shout out to The Wedding Cake Shoppe for supplying us with two super scrumptious wedding cakes for our workshop. If you are one of our brides to be you should definitely check them out for your special day!
