Another Wicked Workshop!

Wow, what a great day! Dave and I are so happy to say that our Wedding Photography Workshop at Sunnybrook Estates was a huge success. We had an amazing group of photographers participating in workshop and we have to say that they were producing some incredible photography.

Pink Twig Floral Boutique provided us with some absolutely gorgeous bridal bouquets. They stayed sooo fresh and perfect throughout the day which was pretty amazing considering the long day of shooting they endured! We all thought this purple bouquet of Lilacs and Roses smelled soo dreamy, you could smell it from across the room… aaaaahh :)

Athena is one of our brides to be, pictured here in the bridal suite. She was so stunning, she really made her Catherine Langlois gown shine.

Since we hosted this photography workshop in February we thought we’d feature some cool winter wedding wear and had Athena sport a few of the wedding stoles we brought along for the shoot. She’s so glamourous, it’s hard to believe she’s never modeled before!

Vlada was definitely getting A LOT of positive feedback from the workshop attendees! She was so graceful and always gave the participants a variety of different poses to choose from, so all of the shots just worked! She’s so striking, we’ll definitely be using Vlada for a future workshop so stay tuned!

Since we had the whole Vaughan Estate to ourselves, the attendees had the run of the house and had so many amazing places to shoot. We did a lot more teaching then shooting, but we did love the shots we got with such an amazing location and our beautiful models. Speaking of beautiful models, meet Vanessa and Mark. Vanessa was wearing a Catherine Langlois gown as well.  While Vanessa is a model, they both are a real couple so it was great getting them to act like a real bride and groom on their wedding day. They both had a great time striking a pose for the camera.

Oh! I almost forgot… the details! Along with the fresh flowers, we had little blue Tiffany&Co. and Birks jewelry boxes, rings, tiaras, necklaces, earrings Bling-Bling as far as the eye could see! Jimmy Choo also made an appearance as the participants tried out some new and creative ways to shoot the shoes. No wedding is complete without the Dom Perignon, we popped some bubbly and shot away.

We will be posting more workshop photos soon including the winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. It’s gonna be a difficult job to choose the winners but we’ll be posting them asap!

Also, I’d like to share a very nice testimonial we received from one of the attendees after we got home, thanks so much again and see you all March 15th for the next workshop!!

Here’s what he had to say:

As photographers we are constantly challenged by our clients to be innovative, creative, and traditional at the same time.  We are all charged with becoming masters at our craft and truly showing how much we care about our clients through our work and the experience we deliver to them.  I found that working with Dave and Charlotte and the team at their workshops have been truly inspirational; it is abundantly clear to me that they care deeply about teaching and inspiring other photographers.  As a result of my experience at their workshops I have elevated my offering and value to my clients while building efficiency in my business.  At their workshops I have consistently found myself in an active and fun learning environment where the entire group is able to feed from each other and learn collaboratively.  I have been welcomed to both workshops with Dave and Charlotte with warmth and friendship and also challenged to increase my technical and creative abilities. Photographers interested in pushing their work to the next level need to invest in this experience

Sincerely,

James Lee

What will you learn: Tips on how to create award winning photographs. You’ll learn lighting, posing, composition and how to create a genuine reaction from your clients! We will also focus on some business tips that have totally revolutionized our photography business.

What you will shoot: We will have the venue staged as a mock wedding with tables, place settings and yes even Champagne!! We will have you apply what you have learned from the day to create some amazing images. You will learn about shooting the details of a wedding, like flowers, shoes, rings and of course the beautiful shots of the dress hanging.

Gowns: Well known wedding gown designer Catherine Langlois will be providing some of her designer dresses for the shoot. We adore her work and we’re excited to shoot her gowns again.

Meet Vanessa & Mark! They are a real couple and Vanessa is a full time high fashion model. She is very experienced, absolutely gorgeous and perfect for bridal. We’re very excited to have them along.

Meet Athena! Athena is one of our real clients and we just recently shot her stunning and opulent engagement party at Le Jardin. We’ve invited Athena along because she is very beautiful but has no modeling experience and will give you a chance to work with a “real client”. You will use what you’ve learned to pose her and create beautiful images.

Wedding Photography Workshop at The Royal York, Toronto

Sunday was a pretty amazing day for Dave and I. We stayed up late the night before making sure every last detail was ready to go and we were prepped for one of our coolest shoots ever… our wedding photography workshop at the Royal York Hotel! Feeling some serious butterflies, we packed up the car and made our way to the Marriott on Bay St where our conference room awaited us. I was so stoked about the hours of fun ahead, the dresses, the models, the make-up, the location… opulence as far as the eye could see.  I really do LOVE putting together and styling these workshops, anything I envision – even a fairytale – can come to life.

With so many amazing people on board we knew we were in for one fabulous photography workshop. Some of our brides to be may recognize Tai (above left) our model, she’s featured in the current edition of Wedding Bells! She and Sylvia (above right) were so talented, they really made the day such a breeze for all of our photographers. Catherine Langlois, one of Toronto’s premiere wedding gown designers fitted Tai with her stunning designer gown and veil, both looked absolutely ethereal.

Georgia Spyra, co-founder of Wink Make-Up Academy here in Toronto was along to make our models look incredible, she has a fantastic ability to create a flawless glow and maximize beauty. Georgia was named one of the top 20 makeup artists in Canada by Lancome International, as well as one of the top five Bridal makeup artists in the country, you can see why we loved having her along!!

We chatted about light, locations, composition and the photography business until lunch and then made our way to one of Toronto’s most famous landmarks, The Royal York Hotel. We reserved the gorgeous Imperial Room for the workshop. Between the ballroom and the spectacular front lobby we were in heaven and had so many beautiful places to shoot! I took a look at a few of the attendees shots and I have to say I was completely blown away with the stuff these guys were getting.

When I laid my eyes upon this opulent bridal gown, a little voice in my head said “I WANT that.” Made of silk, Swarovski crystals and lace, it looked like it was something Cinderella might wear. Dave played with the fairytale theme and set up this storybook shot. I love it :) !!

The attendees took part in our 8 minute challenge – applying what they learned from the in class portion of the day and shoot the models on their own. We wanted them to have fun with it and get creative, so we made it interesting by offering a prize to the best two images. We’ll post the winners shortly but since all of them are pro photographers I have a feeling it’s gonna be a really close competition.

These shots were taken in the front lobby of the hotel. I just love the way the light plays on the taffeta of Catherine Langlois’ creation, such perfection.

Dave took some of the attendees back into the Imperial Room to play with some available light.

Matt and Tai struck a pose or two while the photog’s snapped away!

When 4:30 hit, we took it outside for the final session of the photography workshop…a real Engagement Shoot with our own fabulous, fantastic, fun-loving clients Sandrina & Jay!!!! Dave was thinking of a celebrity/ paparazzi theme for the shoot. It was totally awesome, these guys pulled up in style with a driver and a shiny new Escalade.

Wowza! How hot do these guys look?? Oh! Oh! Can I have your autograph…Pulllease ;)

SA-Mokin’  These rockstars were a perfect ending to our day full of fun and adventure. Thanks to everyone for taking part, we had a blast!

Before we sign off, we wanted to give a huge shout out to our awesome friend and associate photographer Kristin for the photographic coverage of the workshop.
