Another Wicked Wedding Workshop

Yipppie!! Dave and I are so stoked to announce that our wedding photography workshop at the Berkeley Church was an outstanding success!! We were so thrilled to have Bryan Caporicci or BCap (as we call him) as our featured guest photographer. The class absolutely LOVED having him along and so did we! BCap is also an educator and his enlighten me online resource for photographers is a great way to up your game! We had such an amazing class of photographers attending our workshop as well. Looking at some of the participants websites and blogs we knew we had some serious talent and some amazing photographers lined up for the workshop. We can’t wait to check out the images they got yesterday, we’ll be posting the winners from our photography challenge soon. Stay tuned!!

Grrrrrowwwwwwww. Very sexy BCap!

Our gorgeous models were the picture of perfection and worked their hearts out to get the images the attendees were striving for. Thanks so much to our hard working models. We had Anett & Joel along as our couple for our engagement style photo shoot. They both did a fabulous job and the participants loved having a real couple to pose and photograph as you would have to on a real engagement shoot. They were so cute together and looked pretty happy to be spending a day of kissing and cuddling together πŸ˜‰ We’ll have pics of them coming soon!

We kicked off the teaching portion of the workshop chatting about marketing, blogging, looking after clients – from inquiry right through to the wedding day and producing their products. We also shared the way we visualize the perfect album before shooting a single image… here’s the 4 shots Dave grabbed during the example. I could tell a lot of the attendees really liked the concept of having the album in mind.

Dave and I had had our Terra Australis exhibition opening the night before the workshop, and some cupcakes left over, so we brought them to the workshop to use in the details section of the shoots. We always like to include the details that people will face on a wedding day to prepare them for what they might encounter – hanging dresses and veils, rings, ring boxes and bottles of champagne. Check out this shot of the ring – we did this with the 100mm macro… both Dave and I love shooting with it… pin sharp and beautiful bokeh. Do you like the brand colours?!

Ada was the first Model to arrive for the shoot. When she walked in the door I was greeted with a great big, warm smile, she is so professional and has the kindest personality… oh and did I mention that she is drop-dead-gorgeous!! Ada and I had a great time and a lot of laughs getting her all dolled up for the shoot πŸ™‚ Being the only girl out of Dave, Bryan and I, I was on dress duty. I’m sure Ada felt like Scarlet O’Hara from Gone with the Wind at some point in the dress tightening process. Even at the end of the day she still looked like a princess. I can’t blame her if she didn’t want to take off her tiara, who would want to go back to blue jeans after that!

Tai was along for the day as well. She’s great and she’s modeled once before for our photography workshop at the Royal York Hotel here in Toronto. It was so nice having her back. Tai has done a lot of modeling and loves bridal, she’s also appeared in Wedding Bells Magazine. She looked so elegant in her cathedral veil and was absolutely glowing in the pictures.

It was fantastic using the Berkeley Church again. It’s a magical and ethereal location for photography. Endless corridors, hidden stairways and private rooms decorated with modern art and eclectic antiques. It’s no wonder so many fashion shows, photo shoots and movies are filmed there! We were so stoked being able to book the Church again for our workshop. Everyone loved shooting at such a great location.

Thanks so much to all of our incredible, fun-lovin’ and talented attendees, you all really helped make the day a lot of fun for us all. We were also so happy to have 3 Wicked Wedding Workshop alumni back again for another workshop. Even Susan, a photographer we met at a recent [b]ecker workshop, made it all the way in from the U.S.A. We had a blast with you all and can’t wait to see more of your shots from the day. We’ll be posting the workshop winners soon!

We’re stoked to have them provide our floral bouquets.

Woo Hoo! Dave and I are so happy to announce that our wedding photography workshop at the Berkeley Church was a huge success!! We were so excited to have Johnny Tran fly in all the way from Calgary as our featured guest photographer. The class absolutely LOVED having him along and so did we! Johnny was honoured with DWF’s Wedding Photographer of the Year award and with his personality and ability he definitely deserves it. We had such an amazing class of photographers attending our workshop as well. Going through some of the participants images from the day, we were awe struck by the shots these guys were getting and all of the interesting angles and poses they were coming up with. It’s been a lot of fun for Dave and I to go through the images from the day, we’ll be posting the winners from our photography challenge soon, so stay tuned!

Our gorgeous models were a breeze to work with and looked fabulous in every shot. We had Eric and Angela along, we shot their wedding last year at the Manor in Kettleby.Β  Angela is a blogger and bakes healthy goodies. Her site “Oh She Glows” is very popular and attracts thousands of visitors every day!! She made Dave and I some healthy brownies and apple cake, it was sooo moist and delicious. It seemed utterly impossible that they were made with no oil or butter! MMM… healthy brownies…Β  They both did an awesome job and all of the participants mentioned how nice it was to work with a real married couple. We loved shooting them again, it took us back to that beautiful wedding day last summer when they vowed their love for one another. Ahhhhh… it seems like yesterday πŸ™‚

We had such an overwhelming response last workshop with Vlada on board. She is a professional world class model and is always quick with a funny joke or a new pose! Dave and I had a real blast shooting her, she kept us laughing all day. She hales from Russia but you should hear her do her “Aussie Dave” impersonation… “Crikey!!” It’s spot on!

Alana was along for the day as well. She’s done a bit of runway but is new to modeling. It was nice having such beautiful subjects with different levels of experience along for the shoot.Β  It really made us exercise our abilities as photographers to get the reactions we wanted from all of our models.

The Berkeley Church was nothing short of a magical and ethereal location for photography. Endless corridors, hidden stairways and private rooms decorated with modern art and eclectic antiques. It’s no wonder so many movies are filmed there not to mention all of the rock stars that have graced the stage! We were so happy to use the Church for our workshop, it was a photographers dream!Β  Dave and I will be back to the Berkeley Church March 24th to photograph an event and cannot wait. We’re sure it’s even more beautiful lit up at night!

Here are a few of Dave’s favourite shots of the day. He amazes me every time, I love seeing the stuff he comes back with after a day of shooting πŸ™‚ He did a wicked job teaching while he was shooting! Evoking true and honest reactions as well as endless laughter from our models! Johnny was also an amazing teacher, he was so informative and has such a cool and down to earth vibe about him. We’ll have his shots soon and post them on the blog when we do. Stay tuned for Johnny’s workshop dates and details as well.

These are a few of my own personal shots. I loved shooting the location and the gorgeous models.Β  They were so much fun to photograph and stayed so congenial and chipper through a long day of shooting. I also loved the effect of video light and used it for a few shots with the class. In the shot I took here of Alana against this red wicker wall, it really made for a moody dramatic effect. Like I said the Berkeley Church is just loaded with cool, funky locations to shoot. My sister Tricia was along to help us out with styling the models and lighting. She was such a super-amazing help all day so we’re hoping she’ll join us for the next workshop… pretty pleeeaassee.Β  I think her arm was getting a bit tired from holding the video light at a 45 degree angle so hopefully she’ll be up for another one lol! Thanks Tricia, you’re a trooper πŸ™‚

New Photography Workshop Date Announced – March 15th!

Hello Everyone!

We’ve had such an amazing and incredibly positive response from our last Wedding Photography Workshop at The Estates of Sunnybrook we could not wait to post the details of our next one! This Workshop is going to be even bigger and better then the last. We will shoot on location at the Berkeley Church. Here’s a little bio on the church to give you an idea of what you will be shooting:

The Berkeley Church

The Berkeley Church was built in 1871, and operated as a church until the 1950’s. At that point it served as a film studio for several decades until 1999 when we began transforming it into one of Toronto’s most interesting event venues. Despite these reincarnations, the Berkeley Church has maintained a historical atmosphere. Architectural details like the original 17-foot stained glass windows maintain the church’s traditional ambiance.

Over the past 10 years we have been host to some of the biggest names in every industry. The stage recently has been a platform for top-secret events for Coldplay, Sam Roberts, Finger Eleven, Sloan and many more. The Berkeley Church is also host to major events for the Toronto Film Festival, and the corporate world from Fortune 500, Major Banks, and client entertainment for small business.

The church is also the perfect location for a wedding, where history meets modern decor.

The Church at Berkeley is approximately 10 000 square feet in total and boasts 100 ft ceilings with a flow between 4 main sections. We will have shooting access to the whole venue! The venue also features our signature Grand Arch Wall that can be lit dramatically for an amazing impact.

The Mezzanine level serves as the perfect location for a wedding ceremony.

As you move downstairs to the Circa 1871 Lounge & Garden Area it’s great for an intimate shooting location. The 140-year-old stonework has been the backdrop for many photo shoots and movie sets. It makes for a stunning area to host something small.

The Field House is our brand new venue space surrounded by windows looking out to our gorgeous gardens. The Field House also has a beautiful green roof deck overlooking the entire area and even though it’s chilly, it’ll still be a pretty spot to shoot!

We also have some fabulous models in attendance!

Vlada is on board and is a very talented and experienced model, very good at posing and giving you a lot of different looks to work with. She will be wearing a 2009 Capri Marie, Maggie Sottero wedding gown and will no doubt be absolutely stunning in every shot!

Eric & Angela are one of our “real couples” (see their Wedding & EShoot here). We shot their wedding last August at the Manor in Kettleby and they both looked gorgeous on their big day πŸ™‚ We’re stoked to shoot these guys again and we know they will give you some great shots.
