Discover Peru With Us! Travel Photography Workshop

GAP-Adventures-Logo

Dave and I have been traveling so much lately that all of this scooting around the globe has almost made the countries we have visited feel like home to us. We’re in Paris right now and leave for the Greek Islands tomorrow… It’s hard to believe we were in India less than two weeks ago photographing Ankush and Lina’s opulent Indian wedding at the air force base in Delhi… Incredible wedding pics soon!! It seems that we’ve been bitten by the travel bug now and we love our amazing clients that trust our work and vision enough to fly us all around the world. Our photography has taken us to so many different countries and on so many adventures, we’ve really developed a love for documenting our memorable journeys. With some of the awesome landscapes we’ve seen abroad like the stunning beauty of Western Australia while photographing Jasmine and Louis’ wedding last December. We were so excited to have the chance to showcase some of our travel works for our sold out Terra Australis Contact Photography Festival Exhibit.

Machu Pichu Travel Adventure

Well don’t unpack your bags just yet! We have some even more exciting news! The #1 winner of the ‘Best Adventure Travel Company on Earth” (as voted by National Geographic Adventure magazine) G.A.P. Adventures, has asked us to combine forces and put together an amazing photography workshop in Peru. Dave and I are absolutely thrilled to teach our award winning photography techniques to educate and inspire the group of travel photography enthusiasts that make the journey to discover Peru with us. The photography workshop in Peru takes place October 17th-24th, 2009. The flights, photography workshop, food, tour guide, accommodation and transfers are included for one awesome package. All you’ll have to think about is how to get your images from so-so to OHHHH YEAH!!!

We’ll grab our cameras and take the train to explore one of the 7 Man Made Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu (as seen above). This is a must see in Peru, set at around 8,000 feet in the Andes Mountains. As we make the journey to the town of Cuzco, the archeological capital of the Americas, we’ll encourage you to use the photography fundamentals we teach to capture photojournalism at it’s best. You’ll photograph all of the beautiful buildings, people and colours of the town of Cuzco while developing a style that’s all your own. We’ll provide you with the photography skills and knowledge enabling you to create amazing travel photography for all of life’s destinations.

Drum Roll Please…

Dave and I are finally home! We’ve really had a busy few months filled with weddings, travel and workshops! Just last week we were in Las Vegas for an exciting and fun filled week at the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) Convention. We had a totally amazing time catching up with photographers and friends, hitting a few parties and livin’ it up Vegas style!

We took in a few photography workshops of our own while we were there. Dave and I love to brush up on our craft whenever we get a chance to keep us on our game and to keep our own workshops full of enlightening information. While in Vegas we attended The Sallee’s 2 Day Workshop – J.B. & DeEtte, a fabulous couple/photography team from Dallas, Texas teaching the nuances of fine art photography. We also attended a class with Jesh De Rox, an inspirational photographer/ artist with a kind spirit and powerful photographs.

There is so many amazing and talented photographers out there, it’s really nice to see so many people following their passion and living their dream. Since we’re on the topic of talented people with a passion for photography let’s announce the winners of our very own Wedding Photography Workshop, shall we?! We admit, it took a little while but with sooo many amazing images it was really difficult to choose! So here goes!

Casa Loma Wedding Photography Workshop Wrap Up

This past Sunday was our wedding photography workshop. Charlotte spent most of the past two weeks putting this workshop together… from sourcing two amazing models, finding the designer wedding gown, sourcing our hair and makeup, getting the right bling, and of course confirming all the details on our location, the grande and wonderful Casa Loma.

We kicked off the shoot in the conservatory (you may recognize it in films such as X-Men, Chicago and countless wedding flicks!) It’s a gorgeous room with very high ceilings, great soft light and marble throughout. Charlotte decided to grab one of the fans and create a fashion look with the cathedral veil Kirsten was wearing. Check it out:

A main goal of our workshops is to teach photographers the importance of seeing where the light is and harnessing that… as well as enhancing what’s already there with careful use of reflectors.

In Peacock Alley we did some very sexy shots of our bride and groom – Kirsten really showed off her fashion background with this amazing shot of her rockin’ out this dress.

We also put our cameras on ai servo / continuous and did several walk throughs of our couple coming toward and away from the camera in very low light… it’s a challenging shot to get and is essential to have the skill for it every time a bride walks down the aisle… Especially backlit in a dark church.

This next photo shows the only time we had the class put flashes on. The exercise here was to play with bouncing flashing off different objects and analyze the results.

Next we scooted into the library for a quick shoot with Josh and some cool stuff with Kirsten playing with her veil (a favourite tool Charlotte uses to get some really cool images at weddings).

To finish up the shoot we headed outside and played on the rampart, then heading into the gardens and finished up with Kirsten taking off her shoes and splashing her feet in the fountain! It did make for some very cool shots.

A huge thanks to Kirsten & Josh – you guys did awesome; Lisa our make up artist; Casa Loma for being so helpful throughout the lead and and during the shoot. Also a special thanks for Laura & little Frankie at Poppies for making the floral consultation such and enjoyable experience. We purchased our gorgeous gown at The Brides Project , a great company/charitable organization helping people with cancer one wedding gown at a time.

After wrapping at Casa Loma we headed to a pub over the road from our studio and all grabbed a hearty lunch and in some cases – ahem – a pint. We chatted for a couple of hours and had an informal q & a time. After lunch we spent about an hour in the studio and headed out for an casual shoot of Charlotte and I to get more practical with lighting, posing, exposure, focusing and all that good stuff.

To our awesome crew: We loved having you all join us for the workshop and have been totally impressed by the quality of your shots! Can’t wait to see you all again at future workshops. We will be posting the 3 competition winners tomorrow night around 9pm… Stay tuned!
