While on location in Perth, Australia photographing Jasmine and Louis’ destination wedding, Dave and I photographed a collection of images that held great meaning to us. These images are of the breath-taking beauty of the vast Australian landscapes. From the dry desolate desert to the lush ancient forests, we documented our journey as a reminder of how incredible and sacred the Earth is and how conservation in key to our survival. These photographs really spoke to us and at the end of our journey we knew that we would cherish these photographs for a lifetime, now we want to share them with you.

A Year in Pictures

Dave and I have one rather obvious obsession and serious passion- Photography. Every day we wake up and see the world as if we’re looking through the lens of a camera. We almost always have our cameras on hand and love shooting little inspirational pieces of the world and documenting our lives. Photography has become embedded so deep within our hearts, we love any excuse to get out there and start snapping. We love being creative and living and feeling in the moment. Capturing our subjects as they truly are and most of the time, madly in LOVE!

We’re so lucky to be surrounded by so many passionate and talented photographers. The saying must be true “like attracts like” because we know that all of our photographer friends and mentors are as in love with shooting as we are! Over the last year we’ve had the incredible opportunity to be photographed by many amazing people. We thrive in all types of photography and even love getting in front of the lens from time to time. If there is one thing I’d recommend to any photographer from a hobbyist to a seasoned pro, get in front of the camera and see how you feel. You can learn so much from being on the other side, it will really give you an insight into how your subjects are feeling when you photograph them, what works and what really made you respond to the camera.

We started off our year in pictures being photographed by somebody whose images we’ve both admired for a long time, legend and multi-international award winner Jerry Ghionis! We attended his workshop in Washington D.C. and can honestly say to any photographer it was an amazing learning experience and real eye opener!

Dave and I were lucky enough to be models in the workshop and really got a chance to get a feel for what it’s like on the other side. We love Jerry’s style and were thrilled with the shots. He’s amazing with posing and lighting. What an awesome experience to be photographed by the most awarded photographer in the world!

Meet Micheal Moore! No, he’s not the documentary filmmaker and star of “Roger and Me”:) He’s a cool and down to earth photographer and friend of ours with some amazing talent. We hooked up for a shoot down at the Toronto Brickworks and had some wicked fun exploring the dusty old brick factory. Remind me next time not to wear high heels while exploring abandoned brick factories LOL. That was the first and last time I wore those shoes :(

James Van Hees or Jaymz as some know him, is a great friend of ours and has one of the most amazing studios we’ve ever seen. Located in Flamborough, he’s built his studio out of an old church dating back to the 1800′s. Mesmerizing cathedral ceilings and an actual cat walk/fashion runway greet you as you walk through the old church doors. James was a great help when we needed a new promo shot for our site. James also runs workshops with us several times a year.

Wei Quek is a new and up-coming photographer from Calgary. His style is modern, edgy and very cool. We were stoked when he asked us at WPPI in Las Vegas if we were up for a shoot, not only because he and his wife Diane a great photographers but because we had just gotten engaged!!!

Some of you may remember Bryan Caporicci and his fiance Al from our blog. We just finished part 1 of 4 of their 4 season shoot and had a real blast going to Blue Mountain in Collingwood for the weekend with the two of them. We rented a ski chalet and hung out in the village to get some great shots of the newly engaged couple. Bryan, being a wedding photographer himself was nice enough to grab shots of Dave and I through out the shoot, here are a few of our faves!

Thanks so much to all of the great photographers that have not only been friends to us but have helped us document the past year of our lives together. Looking back at the photos, we realize how important it is to take the time for good photography. This year flew by sooo fast but we’ll always have our photos to remind us of our great times together. Remember you never NEED a good reason to have great photography of you and your loved ones. Make the time together and invest in an artist!!

Happy Birthday Greta!!!

greta2

Some of you know our funny little micro-mini dachshund Greta from reading our blog. She’s a 4 lb. little pup with a big voice and even bigger heart!  Others may have met her in our studio or during our road trip last year. She sure loooves attention and from whoever is willing to give it to her :)

We have some exciting news!!! Greta just turned 1! Yeah, Yippie!!! Happy Birthday to our cute little baby!

We did a little shoot with her this week to celebrate, and we all had a lot of fun, as soon as we put the camera in front of her she thought it was a game and was hopping back and forth and rolling on her back.  It was difficult trying to get her to sit still for just a moment and Greta trying to resist doing so! We bought Greta a brand new bumble bee outfit for the big day from Metro Hound, however it was a bit too snug for the little monkey!

We look forward to spending many more happy birthdays with her in years to come.

A New Look

After returning from Las Vegas recently with our brains so full of ideas on how to improve our business, Charlotte and I set out with a long list of things we’d like to do to further improve the products and services we’re creating for our clients… we won’t ruin the surprise, but wanted to share phase one with you…

Part of this process has been to redesign our logo. We’re excited to have just approved our final revision with our designer, and for your viewing pleasure, here it is!

I asked her last night after a lovely meal at a French restaurant here in Las Vegas… I’m pleased to say I caught her off guard, which can be tough to do!

I’m so happy she said YES!!!! I couldn’t be more excited to be marrying the girl of my dreams!

We’re both very excited about entering this new stage of our lives together!!! Thanks for all your best wishes through Facebook everyone! We appreciate you all so much.

Our Melbourne Road Trip

Georgie and Jerry Ghionis with Dave Biesse and Charlotte Leonard

After shooting Louis and Jasmine’s fabulous wedding in Perth, Dave and I flew to Melbourne to visit the rest of his family. We had an awesome time visiting with everyone, all of Dave’s cousins, aunts and uncles were a blast to be around. We also had a chance to hang out with friends Jerry and Georgina Ghionis. We not only love their work, but had a great time in Melbourne with the two of them. If you get a chance, check out Jerry Ghionis’ photography, he’s an amazing award winning photographer and Dave and I absolutely love his stuff! Of course, behind every great man is a fabulous woman, and Georgi certainly has that covered :) If you’re not a member of Jerry’s ICE Society, we highly recommend it. It’s a very helpful tool for any photographer.

driving my holden ss

Haha… Dave Loooved our rental car… It’s a Holden SS, a brand of car made only in Australia. It sure was a hot rod, but too bad there’s photo radar all over Australia, he never got a chance to take it for a real spin… Oh well, I was fine with that!

After an awesome time away in Melbourne, we headed through the country side to the famous Great Ocean Road. This has got to be the most incredible drive on earth. Winding cliff side roads complimented by gorgeous ocean views.

beautiful photo of tree ferns by charlotte taken in sherbrook forest, victoria, australia

Another stop on our trip was to the enchanting Sherbrook Forest. Paths lined with ancient gum trees and tree ferns guided us deep into the forest. Parrots swooped through the air and around trees like kamikaze pilots to keep themselves entertained.

This adventure sure had a lot to offer. Lush greenery, exotic wildlife and my personal favourite… NO bugs!!

Beautiful photo of an ancient eucyluptus tree in sherbrook forest, the dandenongs

Check out this tree trunk! Surely it must be a few thousand years old! Okay, maybe a few hundred, but gorgeous all the same. It looks like something straight out of Lord of the Rings. Do you think the knots look like faces all over it… If only trees could talk!

feeding the parrots at sherbrook forrest

At first the sweet little parrots of Sherbrook Forest just stopped by for a quick hello, but once they saw I had a few yummy snacks in my hands they came at me from all directions!! As much as it startled me to have them all land on me at once, you do have to admire their beauty and moxie!

Australia was an exiting amazing adventure and we were sad to say good bye, but I guess all good things must come to an end! We were also happy to get back home and back to our studio. Stay tuned to the blog for what we’ve been up to since we’ve been back. We have a lot to blog about!!  An exclusive shoot with a very talented, chart topping Rock Star who’s just returned from touring with P!NK!!! And another fabulous destination wedding on the way, this time Mexico~ OLE!
